Jianna Miller
who am I? (how deep)
If you’ve been here long enough, you know that my name’s Jianna and my favorite color is purple — hence the site theme ;). Aside from being an awesome daughter, sister, aunt, and overall person, I am a certified connoisseur of user experience design.
With a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Vanderbilt University, I combine my expertise in Psychology, technology, creativity, and research principles to create solutions that enhance people's everyday life through thoughtful application and understanding. I believe that everyone should have access to intuitive and effective digital experiences that support their daily lives and even help make them better!
In the past 2 years, I’ve dedicated over 5,000 hours on startup and Fortune 500 projects in various industries including education, hospitality, ecommerce, financial services, and more. I’m always ready for new design opportunities and have plenty of room up my sleeve for a few more impressive performances.
what i’ve been up to
Currently, I am a Designer with Kmotion Design Inc. creating custom web and other creative solutions that boosts clients’ online presence and exponentially grows their business!
my hobbies
In addition to my amazing career, I balance my work-life commitments through many other passions: reading, dancing, singing, yoga, crafting, watching anime—really all things fun and creative! I’m in the progress of designing and building a passion project for the ultimate budgeting app to suit my specific needs. Maybe it’ll be useful to others in the future too!
my 5 work beliefs
Embrace space for creativity where visual design is concerned
It’s very easy to seek black and white answers when it comes to UI and visual design, particularly where users goals and intentions are concerned. Recognizable patterns are crucial but if a new idea is brewing and next steps aren’t defined by a design system or scope, I’m all for trying new things and seeing where my mind takes me.
There’s no “i” in team
The beautiful things about a collaborative team is you don’t have to be perfect or a master at everything. As confident in my skills as I am, I definitely can’t do everything under the sun. I love bouncing ideas off of team members and using each other’s strengths to create the best outcome possible.
Take time to breathe
Iterative design and sprints can get pretty crazy pretty fast. I’m a big advocate of taking care of myself first so I can take care of business second. When the going gets tough, allowing time and space to check in with myself and my team members is a great way to ensure we don’t suffer from burnout and stress. Mental health is key!
PSO: Process, Structure, and Organization
Working in a fast paced environment and working without structure are completely different things. When internal processes aren’t working, communication is coming short, and there ends up being more questions than answers, let’s reset and come to solutions sooner rather than later. There’s nothing worse than drowning when you can reach the surface!
Employee enrichment matters more than you think.
Every employee wants to feel and know that they’re making a positive impact on your business. Vocalizing your appreciation for someone’s efforts goes a long way in showing that you care about them as a colleague, but most importantly, as a person. If expectations aren’t met, respectfully express concerns and offer space to improve. Show your humanity!
